The Integrity Vice Presidency (INT) is part of the World Bank Group (WBG), and shares the WBG's overall mission to reduce poverty. INT's fundamental role within the WBG is to help detect and deter fraud and corruption in the use of the WBG's own financial resources and those entrusted to it, so that such resources are used effectively to benefit the poor people that they are intended to benefit. INT is an independent office within the WBG, which helps to detect and deter fraud and corruption in WBG-supported activities in the following ways:
Investigating allegations of fraud, corruption, collusion, coercion, or obstruction (the five Bank-sanctionable practices) in WBG-supported activities and seeking WBG sanctions, including public debarment, against firms and individuals that have engaged in such practices. Determinations of sanctions are made independently by the WBG's sanctions regime;
Investigating allegations of significant fraud and corruption fraud and corruption involving WBG staff and submitting a report of findings to the Bank's Human Resources Vice Presidency, which determines whether or not disciplinary action is warranted;
Working in parallel with national enforcement agencies in the investigation of conduct constituting sanctionable practices;
Using information available to INT to help operational staff design and implement projects in ways that minimize fraud and corruption risks;
Mining the lessons learned from INT investigations to assist WBG operational staff in designing projects in a way that mitigates fraud and corruption risks;
Referring investigative findings to relevant national enforcement authorities and working with such authorities to follow-up on these referrals; and
Leading and collaborating with others in the international community, including multilateral development banks and other international organizations, to mitigate the risks of fraud or corruption in development activities.
INT relies on those who work on Bank-supported activities and those affected by such activities to report allegations. Government officials, project staff, contractors and citizens can report suspected fraud and corruption directly to INT by phone (Our 24 hour hotline number is +1-800-831-0463 in the U.S. and +1-704-556-7046 outside of the U.S. Collect calls are welcome. Interpreters are available and anonymous calls are accepted.)
